I was on my way to the Bombshelter at UCLA (an underground cafe) when I saw the entire area cordoned off by police tape. Apparently a person jumped off a building (7-8 stories) sometime within the last two hours.

I conjecture that the suicide rate at UCLA is far less than at MIT. It doesn't seem to be as prominate an issue outside of Boston. Or perhaps it just isn't as well publicized. I knew of only two or so suicides at Ohio State in my four years there, which would be a rate of 1/10th MITs.

The per capita rate would be only something like 1/25, but I suspect that there were some suicides which didn't make the paper as they didn't occur on campus.
